Consumer Advice – Toppling Information

Australian Consumer law and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) have implemented new legislation to increase awareness with the risks associated of toppling furniture, by warning consumers to anchor furniture to prevent furniture tip overs, serious injury or fatalities.

Why Toppling Furniture Safety Matters

Each year in Australia, children are seriously injured by unstable furniture tipping over. The ACCC requires retailers to provide safety information with all freestanding furniture items that may pose a toppling risk.

Furniture Covered

- Tallboys, bookcases, shelving units, wardrobes, buffets, and other freestanding furniture 686mm and taller.
- TV units and entertainment units.
- Display cabinets and storage furniture.

(Note: Adore Home Living does not sell bedroom furniture but the same rules
apply to tall storage items in lounges and living spaces.)

How to Keep Your Home Safe

1. Anchor Furniture to the Wall
- Always anchor tall furniture securely to the wall.
- Anchoring kits are available from hardware stores (such as Bunnings).
- Please ask Adore staff if you need guidance on choosing or installing an anchoring kit.

2. Place Heavier Items Low
- Keep heavy objects like TVs, stereos, or large décor pieces on the lower shelves.

3. Avoid Tempting Climbs
- Do not place toys or remote controls on top of tall furniture.

4. Supervise Children
- Teach children not to climb drawers, shelves, or furniture.

- A safety information card like this one is provided at the time of sale.
- Your sales invoice will note that this safety guide has been issued.

- Anchoring kits can be purchased from most hardware stores.
